Congregation M’kor Shalom is hosting a musical celebration to honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday, Jan. 16 from 8 to 10 p.m.
Martin Luther King’s dream will be alive with music at this 12th annual Unity Choir Martin Luther King Celebration. This year is bigger and better than ever with 80 singers and a band all conducted by cantor Anita Hochman along with her colleagues and friends, the inspirational and gifted Beverly Collins, Evelyn Thomas and Donavon Soumas.
One thousand guests participate at this crowded service that is a musical celebration that epitomizes the beauty of diversity and a reflection of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King. The Unity Choir, made up of more than 80 voices this year, will sing music that ranges from the most high-spirited Gospel music, to stimulating songs of freedom and uplifting Jewish folk music.
The music will resound with the voices of the Unity Choir, which includes M’kor Shalom choir members along with choir members from churches, synagogues and organizations throughout the state of New Jersey. They represent Antioch Baptist Church, Morningstar Baptist Church, Kerygma, Bethel Baptist Church and with additional singers from Har Sinai Temple of Pennington, H.E.R.I.T.A.G.E. Inc. of Plainfield and First Baptist of Somerset.
