Samost JFCS of Southern New Jersey, JEVS Human Services offering Career Strategies program

With staff in place and a new services suite, a new partnership between Samost Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Southern New Jersey and JEVS Human Services is officially open to assist the unemployed, underemployed and career transitioning members of our community. The program is called Career Strategies, and will offer free seminars and workshops throughout the year, that will help jobseekers hone interview skills, build resumes, learn valuable computer skills, and more. Sessions will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 14 and 28 and Feb. 11 and 25 at Katz JCC.

“The career services that are offered are really going to complement the social services that Samost JFCS has provided for the Cherry Hill community and beyond for over 70 years,” said Marla Meyers, executive director of Jewish Family & Children’s Service. “Each day, our licensed professionals help clients find effective ways of dealing with personal challenges and transitions, and sometimes, those challenges are related to quality and family-sustaining employment.”

In its first year, Career Strategies will combine research-based and results-oriented strategies and resources to assist clients in finding rewarding, family-sustaining employment. The program will serve up to 100 participants utilizing both individual employment counseling and group workshops.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with the talented, caring staff at Samost JFCS, to bring these important employment-related services to Southern New Jersey,” said Jay Spector, president and CEO of JEVS Human Services. “The JEVS Career Strategies team has been assisting jobseekers since our inception, so to help clients across the river in New Jersey is a natural fit.”

The collaboration of JFCS and JEVS will address the unmet need in these targeted areas, providing vocational preparation services, including: individual assessments of participant’s skills, interests and barriers, one-on-one job counseling, one-on-one and group guidance in resume building and cover letter writing, workshops on computer literacy, and workshops on job search strategies. Individual services will be provided on a sliding-fee scale, while many workshops will be provided free of charge. Career Strategies services are partially underwritten through financial support from the Raymond & Gertrude Saltzman Foundation.
