Cherry Hill’s mayor and council recently honored Chelsea Monahan for her performance at the International Street & Ball Hockey Federation’s Women’s World Championship in June.
“Congratulations again to Chelsea Monahan for not only getting the opportunity to represent the United States on the international stage, but also for taking home the gold championships,” said Mayor David Fleisher.
“She’s made Cherry Hill proud, not just her community, but her students, and we’re lucky to have her as a teacher and an inspiration here in Cherry Hill.”
Monahan – who teaches at Horace Mann Elementary School – competed with the U.S. as the federation championships in Switzerland. She and her team took home a gold medal after facing Canada, the winner last year. The American team “pulled a victory in an overtime win” according to the township proclamation and beat Czechia in the finals without allowing for a single goal in the game.
“Her outstanding achievement stands as a testament to her dedication to her sport and an inspiration to her students and to young hockey players throughout South Jersey,” the proclamation noted.
During meeting remarks, the mayor offered updates on projects and events in the township, including:
- An ongoing survey that is part of the township’s efforts to update its open-space and recreation plan for the next decade. The survey is available on the Cherry Hill website at https://www.chnj.gov/formcenter/recreation-14/2024-cherry-hill-open-space-and-recreati-205.
- Cherry Hill American Little League held a tournament of champions banquet to kick off its state softball Little League tournament for ages 8 to 10. Bordentown Little League.
- The 7/11 on Brace Road held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate its grand reopening. The business has been part of Cherry Hill for more than 60 years.
- American Water is doing a water main replacement on Park Boulevard. The road will be closed between Grove Street and Jefferson Avenue for the next few weeks. The project is expected to finish this fall.
“Residents who live on the street as well as anyone trying to access the county parks’ office or Erlton Swim club will have access during the duration of the project,” Fleisher explained. “This is a major project, and please rest assured that there will be extensive and ongoing communication with the neighborhood and residents to help them navigate through the project.”
