Cherry Hill Police looking for tips on missing marble sculpture

The sculpture, a 1930s work from Nathaniel Choate of a Sudanese woman, went missing from an apartment at Barclay Towers in November of 2018.

The Cherry Hill Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing Nathaniel Choate unfinished marble sculpture of the bust of a Sudanese woman. The sculpture went missing from an apartment at the Barclay Towers in November of 2018 and has cultural heritage significance. For that reason, agents with the FBI’s Art Crime Team are assisting Cherry Hill Police with this investigation.

Choate was a famous American artist who lived during the first half of the 20th century. Choate achieved fame for his art and regularly showcased his work at the National Academy of Design in New York City and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The missing sculpture was created in the 1930s.

A reward is being offered for any information leading to the recovery of the bust and/or identification of the person responsible for its disappearance.
