High school sports roundup: Cherry Hill East field hockey stuns top-seeded Toms River North, Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer advances

Cherry Hill East girls’ soccer also played its final game of the 2016 season against Eastern on Monday.

Carli Ciocco led the Cougars with a goal and two assists in Cherry Hill East’s upset win over Toms River North on Monday afternoon.

Cherry Hill High School East field hockey pulled off a huge upset in the Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinals on Monday after. The №8-seeded Cougars stunned №1 Toms River North, 3–2, sending Cherry Hill East to the Central Jersey Group IV semifinals on Wednesday.

Cherry Hill East’s Carli Ciocco led the offensive attack with a goal and two assists. Isabella D’Amore and Shannon Reiss also scored for the Cougars, who led 2–1 at halftime and hung on in the second half to close out the game. Gabi Valladares was solid in goal with eight saves.

Cherry Hill East will have a chance to earn a spot in the Central Jersey Group IV Finals with a win in Wednesday’s semifinal. The Cougars will visit №4 seed Jackson Memorial High School. The game begins at 2 p.m.

Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer advances in postseason

Coming off their South Jersey Coaches’ Tournament victory over the weekend, Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer was victorious on Monday in the first round of the South Jersey Group III playoffs on Monday. The №4 seeded Lions defeated №13 seed Highland Regional High School, 5–1, at home.

Elliot Cumba led the Lions with two goals and an assist in the game. Pat Huegel, Jason Kahan and Dimitri Malliaros also scored for Cherry Hill West.
The Lions have now won six consecutive games entering the South Jersey Group III quarterfinals on Thursday. Cherry Hill West will host №12 seed and division-rival Seneca High School. Seneca upset №5 seed Absegami, 1–0, yesterday afternoon.

Cherry Hill East girls’ soccer falls to Eastern

In a late season regular season game, Cherry Hill East girls’ soccer lost to Eastern Regional High School, 6–0.

The Vikings scored three goals in each half of the game. Kelli McGroarty led the Vikings with a goal and three assists. Sam Bourne and Rebecca Winslow combined to make seven saves in net for the Cougars.
