The Scleroderma Foundation’s Delaware Valley Chapter will be hosting an educational forum in three locations entitled, “My Journey with Scleroderma, Transplant and Survival.” The forum will include a personal story presented by a patient who has experienced the potentially life-threatening symptoms and ultimately qualified for a stem cell transplant.
The event will take place concurrently at three locations on Saturday, Feb. 11. The venues are Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Haddonfield, Good Sheperd Lutheran Church in Somerville and Woodlawn Library in Wilmington, Del.
The Scleroderma Foundation’s Delaware Valley Chapter is based in Cherry Hill. It provides support and education for patients and their families, and seeks to generate funds for Scleroderma research, the only hope for advances in treatment and a possible cure someday.
Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune, life-threatening condition which impacts both external and internal organs, ranging from skin hardening, digital ulcers, possible necrosis and constriction of fingers and toes, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and significant gastrointestinal issues, to name just a few of the myriad of symptoms. Manifestation of the disease varies greatly from person to person, leading to great difficulty with diagnosis. Currently, there is no cure, and treatment is comprised of only attempts to help with symptoms. Due to its relative rarity in the population, funds for research are not readily available.
The foundation is provided the educational forum for free as part of its mission., The forum will be held concurrently via webcast.
Lunch will be provided, so preregistration is required. To register, participants should call SFDV at (866) 675–5545 or email [email protected] by Feb. 4 and specify which location they will attend.
