Marlene Blank talks of how she met her husband more than 50 years ago.
I was a 19-year-old Jersey Girl attending Temple University majoring in health and physical education. A classmate of mine invited me to go home with her after school, to Northeast Philadelphia. We decided to go watch her boyfriend play basketball at a local playground.
When we arrived, he was shooting baskets with a friend. We hung out and shot some hoops and were having a good time. My future husband was alone shooting baskets on a different court. He assumed I was with one of the guys. When one left for dinner, he came over and started chatting with us. We played a game of Horse and I think he let me win.
Later he walked me to my car and told me he had an appointment in New Jersey the next day near my home and asked if he could stop by to take me to lunch. He did, and two years later we were married. We will have been Cherry Hill residents for 51 years this coming June and after 54 years together, we still go to a court near us and play a game of Horse!
