Weekly Roundup: Sixth grade center idea shelved, three schools named National School of Character

Sixth grade center concept off the table for Cherry Hill schools

Only a week after more than 100 Cherry Hill community members voiced their opposition to the concept of a sixth grade center to members of the Cherry Hill Board of Education and administration, district officials decided to pull the plug on the idea. At last Tuesday’s Board of Education work session meeting, board president Barry Dickinson announced a sixth grade center would not be part of Cherry Hill Public Schools 2020 discussions.

Themes of kindness, service and resilience boost three Cherry Hill schools to prestigious honor

Cherry Hill Public Schools reached a new peak with its character education programming last week. For the first time, three schools were named as a National School of Character in the same year. Rosa International Middle School and Richard Stockton Elementary School received the honor for the second time, while A. Russell Knight Elementary School received the designation for the first time.

Recently, Eastside was one of 17 high school newspapers in the country named Most Outstanding High School Newspaper in America by the American Scholastic Press Association.

Volley for Support raises money for Mothers Matter

The 13th annual Volley for Support fundraiser drew hundreds of Cherry Hill community members to Cherry Hill High School East. This year’s event raised money for Mothers Matter. Event organizers hope the 2017 event matches 2016’s records for most money raised.

Cherry Hill Police to conduct sobriety checkpoint over Memorial Day weekend

The Cherry Hill Police Department announced on Thursday that it would be conducting a motor vehicle sobriety checkpoint over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The checkpoint will take place sometime during the late evening hours. A specific location for the checkpoint was not released.
