Letter to the editor

Dear Editor,

It was an awesome Veteran’s Day weekend in Moorestown. On a beautiful November morning a diverse group of citizens gathered to dedicate a park in memory of Armydis Sordon, a black soldier who served in World War I and died in France.

He was raised on the very location of the park now bearing his name, on Mill Street, at Beech Street. Later that day the Moorestown Theater Company put on two performances of “The Prom”, a musical based on true events, about a teen who wants to go to the prom with her girlfriend. The musical was a fun, lively and thought provoking look at how communities respond to LBGTQIA+ issues of inclusion and affirmation.

A well-known Margaret Mead quote was shared that day: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Moorestown showed up for equity and social justice in a powerful way this weekend.
