Democrats win big in 2017 Cherry Hill Township Council election
Cherry Hill Township Council will remain all-Democrat in 2018 as incumbents David Fleisher, Carolyn Jacobs and Carole Roskoph, and newcomer Sangeeta Doshi were victorious in last week’s Cherry Hill Township Council election. The four Democrats defeated Republican nominees Andrew Behrend, Scott Cohen, John Papeika and Joseph Rodi Jr. The Democrats earned a combined 67.3 percent of the vote.
Cherry Hill Schools to start Mandarin Chinese pilot program
A new foreign language will be piloted at Cherry Hill high schools East and West beginning next school year. At the Cherry Hill Board of Education Curriculum and Instruction committee meeting last Monday, the district announced a pilot class for Mandarin Chinese would begin in 2017–18. The district chose Chinese over Russian and Japanese as the language to pilot.
Cherry Hill West girls cross country qualifies for state meet for first time
On Nov. 4, the Cherry Hill High School West girls cross country team did something it had never done before: qualify for the NJSIAA Group III state championship meet. The Lions finished in fifth place at the South Jersey Group III sectional meet in Nov. 4, earning the team a spot at states for the first time in program history. Head coach Maggie Strimel credited the hard work and leadership of her seniors as a big reason for the team’s 2017 success.
Cherry Hill vets honored at Camden County Veterans Medal Presentation
Multiple Cherry Hill veterans were among the 34 military servicemen and women honored last Wednesday at the 16th annual Camden County Veterans Medal Presentation at Jefferson Health in Voorhees. Camden County Freeholder William Moen Jr., Camden County Veterans Affairs director Floyd L. White III, Lt. Col. AL Bancroft, veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Adam Klein, outreach coordinator of Camden County’s Veterans Affairs, presented the medals.
Cherry Hill West girls soccer falls short at Ocean City
Cherry Hill High School West girls soccer’s deep postseason run came to an end in the South Jersey Group III championship game at Ocean City High School on Thursday. The Lions lost to the Red Raiders in penalty kicks. Goalkeeper Madeline Sweeney made eight saves to shut out Ocean City over 100 minutes of regulation and overtime.
