A Blue Ribbon school

Tatem Elementary among only 353 schools to earn the annual designation

Haddonfield’s J. Fithian Tatem Elementary School has been named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School (NBRS).

The announcement – made by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona on Sept. 19 – places Tatem among only 353 public and private schools honored nationwide.

The NBRS program is one of the nation’s longest-running recognition programs. It celebrates outstanding public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools based on overall high academic achievement or success in closing the achievement gap among diverse groups of students.

The NBRS yearly process begins when each state’s education department nominates an outstanding school to the U.S. Department of Public Education (DOE) and that school applies for the award. After a rigorous review, the federal DOE awards blue-ribbon status.

“I am so proud of our staff, students and families for working together to achieve high academic expectations and to foster a caring and supportive school community,” said Tatem Principal Donnetta Beatty.

“This award is a result of real teamwork, talent and hard work by all members of our school family.”

In addition to school and district celebrations, there will be formal presentations of the awards and a ceremony in the middle of November in Washington, D.C. Watch the U.S. Department of Education video announcement online and check out Tatem’s NBRS profile at https://tinyurl.com/4dehnkt6.
