One of the most popular articles came from the July 25 board of education meeting. A few weeks prior, the district found out it would receive an additional $1,021,510 of state aid for its 2017–18 budget. The question of how to use the money was discussed at the meeting.

“We looked at two areas,” Assistant Superintendent for Business Lynn Shugars said at the July 25 meeting. “One was capital projects. The second area was instructional technology.”

The board passed an amended budget where an additional $471,510 was allocated for required maintenance and $125,000 for care and upkeep of the grounds. The district planned to expand its door and locker replacement projects and add new exterior lighting and athletic field upgrades with the funds.

The remaining $425,000 was allocated for instructional technology. The idea was to use the money to upgrade technology for staff members so the district could possibly start a one-to-one technology initiative in the future.

The district decided not to change the tax impact on residents. The average assessed home of $224,200 in Cherry Hill saw its taxes increase $142.30 last year.
