A single lane on Route 70 eastbound will be closed Friday night between Haddonfield Road/Grove Street and Kings Highway/Route 41 in Cherry Hill, Camden County. In addition, several side streets within the project limits will be closed and detoured for an extended period of time.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, until 6 a.m. Saturday, June 3, a single lane on Route 70 eastbound is scheduled to be closed between Haddonfield Road/Grove Street and Kings Highway/Route 41. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight.
In addition, at 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, 13 side streets intersecting with Route 70 eastbound between Haddonfield Road/Grove Street and Kings Highway/Route 41 will be closed and detoured for approximately six months. Edison Avenue/Georgia Avenue and Park Drive will be reopened by 6 a.m. Saturday. Motorists are advised to follow the signed detours. The following streets will be affected:

- Webster Avenue
- Whitman Avenue
- Conwell Avenue
- Sheridan Avenue
- Grant Avenue
- Edison Avenue/Georgia Avenue
- Wesley Avenue
- Cooper Avenue
- Madison Avenue
- Harrison Avenue
- Harding Avenue
- Park Drive
By 6 a.m. Saturday, traffic on Route 70 eastbound will be shifted to the left onto the temporary roadway in the median to create a work zone in the right lane and shoulder. In addition, Edison Avenue/Georgia Avenue and Park Drive will be reopened with all other side streets remaining closed for the duration of the new traffic pattern, which is expected to remain in place for approximately six months. The traffic shift and street closures are necessary to install a watermain and reconstruct the right lane and shoulder on Route 70 eastbound. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays or plan an alternate route.
The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the North Maple Ave loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.
