To provide affordable programming for the special needs community, the rec department relies heavily on partnerships to underwrite costs. There will be fundraisers in March and April to ensure these programs continue. We need your support.
Summer Camp for individuals with special needs is a mainstay for families in the area. This comprehensive summer camp includes field trips, special events, door to door transportation and certified staff during the month of July. The cost to a family is $175, but the program costs much more. The Social Meeting After School Hours (SMASH) returned this January. This peer-driven, Thursday afternoon gathering fills a glaring gap in the offerings for these young adults.
Come out and support these fundraisers. On Friday, March 31, ‘Family Game Night Fundraiser – an Event For People With Special Needs and Their Entire Family’ will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the third floor of the Church Street Rec Center. Come have some fun with BINGO, Moorestown Trivia, Sensory Play, kid’s games and a Scavenger Hunt. There will be three chance baskets (‘Take Me Out to the Ballpark’ – six premium seat Phillies tickets), ‘Wine Down’ – four bottles of wine, glasses with a picnic tote and ‘Family Game Night’ – a variety of board games. Music and light refreshments. Registration is required at www.moorestownrec.com.
The Mission Voice/Quaker Wealth Management 5K Race/Walk Fundraiser will be on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Strawbridge Lake Entrance. All proceeds will go to the Moorestown Parks & Recreation Department’s Special Needs Summer Camp. Visit www.mission-voice.com/5krun.com for full details and to register.
If you can’t make either event, please consider donating. It makes a huge difference in many lives.
