Raising funds for reading

Moorestown home and school association holds spring fundraisers

The Moorestown Home and School Association will hold its spring book fair fundraiser at Roberts, South Valley and Baker elementary schools for one week beginning Monday. The Upper Elementary School’s book fair will take place the week of Monday, March 27.

“They also have for the elementary schools a family evening shopping, so families can come, and they can also peruse the book fair and purchase some things together, and that is going to happen on (Thursday) March 23 at the three elementary schools,” said Renita Brady, of the home and school association.

“There is a family evening shopping at UES, (the) same exact thing, (everyone) is invited to come in and shop together on (Thursday) March 30.”

Brady explained how the goal of the fundraiser is to promote reading to students and fund school programs.

“Also, books are purchased for the teachers and students that might not otherwise have access to purchasing these books,” she said. “There will be books purchased for students who may need that.”

The book fair will be followed by the home and school association’s district apparel sale fundraiser, which will begin online Sunday, April 16, and continue through Thursday, May 4. Various items with Moorestown logos will be available for purchase.

“We have embroidery logos, we have print logos, T shirts, sweatshirts, fleeces – so there’s a really nice variety, and again, we try to mix that up each sale just to get the variety out there,” Brady noted. “Also, to keep things fresh and new, introducing new items that perhaps weren’t offered at the one sale.”

Earlier this month, the home and school held a miss chocolate gourmet cookie and desserts fundraiser. Baker, Roberts, South Valley and UES also kicked off Boosterthon, a nine-day event that raises funds for the association’s events and activities.

From Brady’s perspective, anything earned from each fundraiser is a huge success.

“All of these (funds) go to so many important programs …” Brady observed. “Anything that we get is going to be put towards our students’ success and enrichment … So it really allows for so many opportunities of what we’re able to provide, in addition to all the wonderful things that the schools are already providing for our students.”

Brady looks forward to seeing each fundraiser grow.

“Moorestown Home and School is always looking for volunteers, always looking for people’s ideas and input, always open for suggestions that’s going to make our school a place where our children can get the best, or we can support our faculty and staff the best way that we can,” she pointed out.

“ … It really is people working together to make things happen, with the goal of having the best interest of the student and the school in mind.”
