The Palmyra Fire Department will host its third annual beer fest on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the firehouse, 115 W. Broad St.
Firefighter and EMT Joanne Huber is the event’s chairperson. Now in its third year, the idea was inspired by a similar event run hosted by another state fire district at the Shore. The beer fest has grown and evolved over the years, especially with its food and entertainment choices, according to Huber.
“We added a different food vendor and a different band,” she said, noting that the Friends Band will perform at the festival this year.
“We also changed the time because it worked out better for our residents,” Huber explained. “Last year’s event was from noon to 5 p.m. This year, the beer fest will end an hour earlier.”
Huber said roughly 350 people came to last year’s festival.
“Every year, we keep making it bigger and better,” she said.
Attendance requires a $30 entrance fee that includes a cup and three beer tickets. Non-drinkers can purchase a special $10 ticket, and kids 12 and under are free. They will have a special area where they can play games and decorate with sidewalk chalk. Tickets are available only at the door, and there will be $10 games and a 50/50 raffle for attendees when they arrive.
Beer fest vendors will include three breweries: Dr. Brewlittle’s Beer, based in Maple Shade; Tuckahoe Brewery in Egg Harbor Township; and Spellbound Brewery from Mount Holly, all of which will have tastings at the event. Hungry guests can visit Smokin’ Addiction BBQ’s food truck. to try their cuisine.
Huber enjoys the festival because it supports the Palmyra Fire Company.
“It’s a fun afternoon for people to get together and hang out,” she said. “It’s fun to see everyone come out in the community – outside of answering fire calls.”
Festival hours are noon to 4 p.m. The fire department will host two other events this month, a golf outing Friday, Oct. 14, and Drag Queen Bingo on Thursday, Oct. 29.
