Multipurpose bond ordinance passed on second reading at Tuesday’s meeting

A bond ordinance was approved on second reading to improve the fire house and public works department.

It was a light agenda at last Tuesday night’s borough commission meeting. A bond ordinance was approved on second reading to improve the fire house and public works department. Commissioners will also be going out for bid on some new items.

Some of the most significant costs in the bond ordinance include the purchasing of equipment for the public works department and building improvements.

“Every year we have to purchase equipment, a lot of it is for public works,” Mayor Neal Rochford said. “We do beat the heck out of the vehicles in public works.”

Some of the other public works equipment to be purchased include a leafer and a pickup truck. The total cost of purchasing of equipment in the public works amounts to $102,000.

Building improvements to the firehouse are also included in the ordinance, such as a new fire house roof and heating system, in addition to other areas, totaling $698,000.

The borough will also be going out for bids on a few items. The borough is going out for bids on a new recycling truck, which is a 25-yard rear-loading refuse packer, and a roll-off truck. The bids will be received on or before Friday, July 13. The borough will be going out to bid on a roll-off truck that carries roll-off dumpster bins due to wear and tear of the current one.

“This is the truck that carried the large roll-off container, we haul large loads of material,” Commissioner John Moscatelli said. ”The one we have is well past its useful life.”

The next commissioners meeting will take place on June 26 at 7:30 p.m.
