Sherry L. Golden Lee, of Marlton, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022. Born in Willingboro, NJ on November 29, 1960, she was 61 years old.
Sherry was the beloved wife of George B. Lee for 29 years; cherished daughter of Arnold “Arnie” Golden, Barbara “Baba” Ellison Golden, and stepdaughter of Dale Golden; loving mother of Jeremy Randolph Lee of Marlton and Jamie Emma Lee of Marlton; dear stepmother of Benjamin Dale Lee (wife Jill) of Marlton, and Ethan Morris Lee (wife Jennifer) of Blue Bell, PA; treasured step-grandmother of Peyton, Keira, Morrison, Ryan, and Connor; dear sister of Karen Juengert (husband Nicholas); sister-in-law of Randolph Morris Lee (wife Gail). Sherry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will miss her tremendously.
After graduating with a major in Literature and minor in Economics from Douglass College at Rutgers University in 1982, Sherry began her career with Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance. Moving forward, at the age of 27, she was the youngest person to become Vice President within her division at GE Capital Insurance Company (Radnor, PA). While raising her children, she worked part-time in the financial services industry at PHH Mortgage as a ratings agency business analyst (Mt. Laurel, NJ). What Sherry often said she was most proud of in her career was her later work as a professor and advisor of English as a Second Language. Sherry taught ESL to international students, who she advocated for as she helped them overcome the barrier that language can create. She taught at LEAP Academy Charter School, Temple University, Rutgers Camden, and Burlington County College.
Sherry gave her time and energy to many causes, even when she was in the midst of her long battle with cancer. Most recently, one of her greatest accomplishments was co-founding “DEON”, the Diversity & Equal Opportunity Network with like-minded individuals. As a non-profit, DEON provides a platform for marginalized students and communities to discuss their experiences and concerns while working closely with other social justice groups in the area. Sherry saw the need for this kind of educational advocacy after the peaceful protests demonstrated in the Summer of 2020.
Most importantly, Sherry loved her family. Her kids were her world and she was so very proud of them and their accomplishments. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, trips to Long Beach Island and the Outerbanks of North Carolina, and reading. Sherry loved animals and owned many cats over her lifetime. In 2014, she gladly took home her third child, her dog Theodosius (aka Theo), who will miss her very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Marlton, 398 East Main Street, on Saturday, February 5th, from 10:30 am to 12 pm. A service will begin at 12 pm, and will be livestreamed and recorded for those who cannot attend (to watch: https://my.gather.app/remember/sherry-l-golden-lee). The family *requires* that masks be worn while in attendance. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sherry’s name to leukemia research at the Abramson Cancer Center.
