MoorArts Art Exhibition and Sale celebrates Moorestown’s artists

Art Exhibit will be held on Jan. 29 at the Community House of Moorestown.

Special to The Sun: “Snowbound Yard” by Jeff Gola will be on display at MoorArts’ Fine Art Exhibit and Sale at the Community House of Moorestown on Jan. 29.

The MoorArts Fine Art Exhibit and Sale will be held Jan. 29 in the Moorestown Community House Library and will feature paintings, photography and mixed media on display and for purchase.

The online art exhibition and sale of the same works will run from Jan. 15 through Feb. 5.

Over 20 artists have submitted their works for the juried exhibition and live music, including a performance by Moorestown harpist Laura Dishong, will be performed throughout the day.

“It’s always astonishing to me how much amazing art is made here in town and here in our area,” said Amy Penwell, vice president of MoorArts.

Penwell has been involved with MoorArts since 2010.

“It’s one of the great joys for me to be able to be a part of this group that keeps these kinds of programs not just alive, but thriving too,” she said.

Traditionally, the art exhibit is held as an evening gala with a concert but has been adjusted due to the pandemic.

“With COVID, we did make the difficult decision to eliminate the performances – that concert setting – and the food and drink and just go with the art exhibit,” Penwell explained.

According to MoorArts President Georgean Wardzinski, the non-profit organization advocates for and supports the performing arts in Moorestown’s school district and community.

Special to The Sun: “Junk Drawer” by Lisa Matera will be on display at MoorArts’ Fine Art Exhibit and Sale at the Community House of Moorestown on Jan. 29.

“We don’t think about it, but the arts impact us everyday,” she expressed.

Although the artworks can be previewed online before Jan. 29, Penwell is hopeful residents will come out.

“As wonderful as the website will be, the art in-person is really extraordinary; there’s nothing like seeing it in-person,” she explained.

Wardzinski noted that MoorArts partners with different organizations in Moorestown such as the Moorestown Business Association, the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Perkins Center for the Arts.

“The idea of collaborations; we could do a lot more together than we can do independently,” Wardzinski said.

According to Penwell, MoorArts also awards scholarships and grants to students and teachers and recognizes those who show participation in the fine and performing arts.

“When we read the applications from the students and see what things that they’re doing, it’s not only gratifying but it’s also very humbling because students are doing so many amazing things in the arts,” she added.

Penwell is excited to see artists’ work get appreciated in the community house.

“If all we do is have an afternoon that celebrates the local art talent in town, we’ll be very pleased,” she said.
