Mayor’s Column: Shop Voorhees

Since the program’s inception, there have been over $2,100,000 in sales with over $128,000 in tax savings returned to the users of the Shop Voorhees Card.

The holiday shopping season is nearly upon us. The Shop Voorhees Property Tax Reward Program! is a great way to shop locally and allows a portion of your normal purchasing dollars spent on goods and services in Voorhees to be applied to your property tax bill, thereby reducing your taxes at the end of the tax year.

Shop at any participating Shop Voorhees location. Such participating businesses are identified by the Shop Voorhees logo in their window or by checking online at propertytaxcard.com or the Voorhees Township website, voorheesnj.com.  When you check out, present your Shop Voorhees card.  The retailer will swipe your card and a percentage of your purchase will be applied to reduce your property tax bill.  Each business independently establishes a percentage of your purchase that will be applied toward your taxes.  It is that easy.

Over 20 Voorhees businesses participate and over 5000 residents have chosen to utilize the program and the numbers continue to grow.  Since the program’s inception, there have been over $2,100,000 in sales with over $128,000 in tax savings returned to the users of the Shop Voorhees Card.

If you need a card, contact the Municipal Clerk at 856-429-7757 or email her at  [email protected]. To activate your card, register it at propertytaxcard.com or voorheesnj.com. You will need your Shop Voorhees card as well as your property Block and Lot number available. This is how your shopping benefits will be recognized to be credited.  If you reside in an apartment, your address will be the recognizing factor for receiving a check at the end of the tax year.  Everyone can participate as long as you sign up with your card and you live in Voorhees.

The Shop Voorhees Property Tax Reward Program also features a free mobile app.  If you have an iPhone or Android, download and enjoy.  The app includes information about all participating merchants and the credit percentage each merchant is offering.  Use the app for a quick search and the “click to call” feature.  Once you have downloaded the app, check it often because some merchants may upgrade to include inventory and reservation capability.

The app also features a Community Page to allow residents to publicize local events.  To upload an event, please email the Shop Voorhees program administrator at [email protected].  To ensure quality service, event postings are subject to a screening process.

The Shop Voorhees app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play for the Android.
