Gloucester County Institute of Technology is excited to announce that on Aug. 31, the doors will open to over 1,600 students. The students will return in a full-time capacity. The faculty and administration are excited to get back to the full-time schedule with the students in their academic classrooms, as well as their career themed programs. The two-phase Long-Range Facilities Plan was completed, and the campus has several changes that will benefit the students.
GCIT has upgraded the theater and natatorium, replaced the entire HVAC system, created an outdoor amphitheater, renovated the bathrooms, repaved the parking lot, and replaced the fire and public address systems. All the HVAC units on all buildings have been retrofitted with bio-ionization filtration to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and all other viruses.
This year, GCIT introduced the new Academy of Biological Sciences with a twenty-five-student cohort. The Academy offers students a comprehensive, academically rigorous high school experience with a focus on the sciences. The sequence of courses offered in this Academy have been designed to give the students a strong background in fundamental scientific concepts that will promote their success in all biological disciplines from microbiology to medicine to ecology.
The district’s School Based Youth Services (SBYS) held a Meet and Greet for the incoming freshmen, so they were able to get acclimated with the building and their surroundings. The SBYS have senior student leaders they call ‘Red Shirt’ who will be assisting the new students to locate their classes and find their buses at the end of the day.
