Spring is upon us. More and more people are getting vaccinated, and people are taking their first steps toward normalcy.

The Kingston Neighborhood of Cherry Hill will welcome this next chapter with an opportunity to get out of the house and shop outdoors. The Kingston Neighborhood Yard Sale & Craft Show will take place on Saturday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event’s origins date back to 2017 when organizer Jessica Regalbuto asked a few neighbors to join her in hosting a yard sale. In 2018, she decided to invite the entire neighborhood, and things have expanded every year since then.

Last spring, when the pandemic hit, planners decided to bump the annual event to the fall in the hopes that things might be in a better place to host an event then. Despite the uncertain times, people masked up and came out to shop.

Regalbuto said they decided to get back on schedule and host another event this spring. She said for people who were hesitant to participate last fall, this is another opportunity to get involved.

Neighbors in the Kingston neighborhood are invited to sell anything they may want to get rid of. Regalbuto said in the past, people have predominantly sold household and kids items. This time, neighbors are also encouraged to sell their own crafts if there’s anything in particular they make.

Around 60 homes will participate, and the timing feels especially appropriate, according to Regalbuto. She said COVID has given everyone ample time to go through their homes, and now, an opportunity to reemerge and rid themselves of some clutter.

“I feel like it’s good for the community, good for the neighbrohood,” she said. “You get to start fresh.”

Regalbuto has also expanded the day’s festivities to include food trucks and other vendors to encourage people to come out. A Kona Ice Truck will be parked in front of 116 Deland Ave., and Mr. Softee will circulate throughout the event to sweeten up the experience.

She said thus far, the neighbors have been happy with the event, and she’s consistently received a lot of good feedback. By the same token, they’ve seen a steady flow of visitors come to shop.

“I really like how this has become an annual event bringing the whole Kingston community together,” she said. “We see a lot of neighbors from all over just stopping by for support and saying hello.”
