Letter to the Editor: Julie Vick

Borough resident expresses anger at lawn signs expressing a certain personal and political leaning have been stolen.

To the Editor,

I am angry. On Saturday morning (Aug. 22) we discovered our two lawn signs had been stolen. “Hate Has No Home Here” has been up since March 2017 and “Biden 2020” has been up since mid-May. I reported it to the police who sent an officer to take down the details.Through a Haddonfield community Facebook page, I learned that others had Black Lives Matter signs stolen from their yards. And when I called the Camden County Democratic Committee to see if they had any signs, I learned that several of their members had had their lawn signs stolen as well. I have always put up signs at the time of the presidential election and can recall only one other time I had a sign stolen.

Perhaps they were stolen by teenagers who are bored by the restricted life they have to lead under coronavirus recommendations. Perhaps they were stolen by people who don’t want any lawn sign publicity for my candidate; if so, they are suppressing my First Amendment rights. I don’t know who did it, but I do know it was theft and while, in the scheme of things, it is a small theft, it matters to me and should matter to you.

Thank you.

Julie Vick
