Guided by volunteers, a caravan of up to 200 cars are expected to drive by the JFCS Family Assistance Center in Cherry Hill to safely drop off donated food for local residents in need. With health and safety in mind, all volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves, and all drivers and passengers will be asked to wear masks when dropping off food. As the only kosher pantries in South Jersey, the JFCS Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantries serve people of every race, faith, and background. Most-needed items for the food drive include shelf-stable milk, pancake mix, rice, instant mashed potatoes and canned vegetables.

Amy Kennedy, Democratic candidate for New Jersey’s second congressional district, will be in attendance from 10 to 11:15 a.m. to lend a helping hand. Kennedy is a former public-school teacher, mental health advocate and mother of five. Her family has lived in South Jersey for four generations and now she and her husband Patrick are raising their family here. (Kennedy’s opponent, Republican incumbent Congressman Jeff Van Drew, has also been invited to attend the food drive.)

JFCS is fielding up to 200 calls each day from community members who cannot afford to buy food due to the coronavirus pandemic. The need for food support is only expected to grow in coming weeks as the economic downturn extends. The more food the agency receives, the more it will be able to distribute to adults, seniors, families and children in need.
