Marlton Woman’s Club donates to six local organizations

April is usually the month when the Marlton Woman’s Club gathers at its monthly meeting still basking in the glow of a highly successful Spring Bingo and Basket Auction fundraiser — to decide how best to distribute the proceeds and how many local scholarships they will be able to support.

This year is different. The group not only was unable to hold its sold-out Spring Bingo or other income-producing events due to CDC protocols from the coronavirus spread, but also witnessed firsthand the hardship of their neighbors and community suffering financially from business and school closures.

Via electronic vote, it was approved by the membership to divide all available funds this year to donate to six area 501-c-3 organizations on the front lines feeding, sheltering and helping those at risk in our community.

The Marlton Woman’s Club will be donating $750 each to the following six community partners: Cherokee High School Food Pantry; Covenant House; Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Food Pantry; Providence House; Wiley Food Pantry; and Women with Voices Charity.

Earlier this year, the club raised and donated $1,350 to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the Special State Project for the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs. And the club’s Education Committee will also be awarding the annual Joanne Lotierzo Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 honoring a high school senior who is actively involved in her community.

The mission of the Marlton Woman’s Club is to enhance the quality of life within our respective communities and state by transforming public interests and concerns into meaningful projects and programs; to afford our members opportunities for the development of individual skills, talents and abilities; and to serve as a volunteer resource in New Jersey communities.
