Fred Hammel of Williamstown, formerly of Mantua, passed away at the age of 70 on Jan. 26.
He was the beloved husband of Darlene (nee Summerville), loving father of Frederick Andrew Hammel (Bridget Dean) of Haddonfield & Krystal Ham (J.P.) of Wayne, Pa., cherished grandfather of Madison and Aidan Hammel along with Charlotte and Peter Ham, as well as the dear brother of Sarah Weiss of Thorofare, Dolores Worrell of Swedesboro, Kathleen “Kathie” Datko of Fairhope, Ala., Joan Medany of Deptford, Brenda Bittner of West Deptford, Michelle Appice of Sewell, and the late Mary Ellen Dunn.
Fred was a dedicated family man and actively involved in his community. He was a coach for the Deptford Twp. Youth Football program, the Mantua Youth Football and Youth Basketball programs. Additionally, he was a member of the Franklinville United Methodist Church and later the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown.
Fred proudly served in the US Army (101st Airborne) during Vietnam and later honored fellow veterans by volunteering on the Gloucester County Veterans Honor Guard.
Fred’s family will receive friends on Wed. Jan. 29, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield. All are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Jan 30, 10 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Ave., Haddonfield. Interment, Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
