Mayor’s Message: Voorhees Business Association anniversary dinner

The Voorhees Business Association (VBA) will celebrate its milestone 30th Anniversary on Dec. 18

The Voorhees Business Association (VBA) will celebrate its milestone 30th Anniversary on   Dec. 18 with a dinner that will also recognize Voorhees Police Chief Louis Bordi as the inaugural Community Impact Award recipient.

The VBA has been part of our community since 1989. The mission of the VBA is to provide a forum for businesspersons and businesses in the area to meet, share and discuss concerns and interests of a civic, commercial, cultural or economic nature. The VBA also seeks to facilitate a dialogue and channel the energies and resources of the business community and elected officials into improving Voorhees Township.

Other VBA activities include contributing money to Eastern High School’s Project Graduation and the Voorhees Police Holiday Fund, providing two scholarships to Eastern graduating seniors, and being the sponsor of the Pumpkin Patch at our Annual Halloween Festival. The VBA is also a sponsor of our Annual Municipal Calendar and has provided holiday gifts to children at the Voorhees Pediatric Facility.

Lou Bordi has been the Chief of the Voorhees Police Department since 2012 and a member of the Police Department since 1988. A native of Voorhees, he has served the Department as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant. He has been a member of SWAT and also a canine handler and canine trainer. As Chief, he has been instrumental in placing police officers in all of our schools for the full school day. He has expanded the community policing program, facilitating new initiatives that allow our police and community to interact and get to know each other.

In 2017 Chief Bordi also assumed the oversight and control of the Voorhees Fire Department. Since that time, the Fire Department has expanded to staffing full-time career officers at both fire stations 24 hours a day seven days a week. He has also worked with the Fire Department Senior Officers in updating the trucks and equipment needed for a state of the art Fire Department.
