The New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA) has named the leader of John A. Carusi Middle School in Cherry Hill its Visionary Secondary Principal of the Year.
Dr. Neil Burti was also named principal of the year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
“This is a tremendous honor,” Burti said of the awards. “I have an incredible team at Carusi Middle School and I’m grateful for the work we’ve been able to accomplish together.”
The awards include $10,000 to expand the school’s reverse inclusion initiatives, both during the school day and after school in extracurricular activities. Reverse inclusion refers to scheduled interaction between typically developing students and students with disabilities.
Cherry Hill school district Acting Superintendent Dr. Kwame Morton praised Burti.
“The (NJPSA) committee couldn’t have picked a better person for the award,” Morton said.
A formal recognition ceremony of Burti’s awards will take place in Washington, D.C., in October.
