Tournament spotlights county youth golfers

Young Camden County golf talents gathered at Valleybrook Country Club in Gloucester Township on April 22 for the 25th annual High School Golf Commissioners Cup, an esteemed event that showcases the skills of high-school athletes across the county.

The tournament kicked off at noon and culminated in an award ceremony at 5 p.m.

The Blackwood club provided a picturesque backdrop for the day’s events, challenging young golfers with its greens and fairways. As the competition unfolded, spectators and team supporters saw a display of emerging talent and sportsmanship.

This year’s tournament – hosted by the Camden County Board of Commissioners – saw competition among 17 coed teams and five girls-only teams, each consisting of up to four players chosen to represent their schools. The event not only highlights athletic prowess but also celebrates the academic achievements of participants.

Commissioner Ed McDonnell, liaison to the Camden County Department of Events and Community Outreach, expressed his enthusiasm for the annual competition.

“This is a highly anticipated event each year because it honors high-school athletes from Camden County who represent excellence both on the field and in the classroom,” he explained. “It is always great to see these players come together to represent their schools and compete at the highest level.”

The commissioners continue to support the golf tournament as part of their commitment to fostering youth activities and community involvement in the county. The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where winners were recognized for their performance and sportsmanship.
