The academy is open to any township resident 16 or older. It is a free 14-week course with classes on Thursdays from 6:30 to approximately 8:30 p.m. and will include an overview of the police department and its many facets, including special operations, criminal investigations and K-9s. All academy attendees are trained in CPR.

The objective of the academy is not to train police officers but to produce informed citizens who meet with officers in a neutral, friendly setting and learn about the men and women behind the badge. The course also helps promote community involvement in the fight against crime.

To access a Citizens Academy application or have questions answered, call the township police department’s community relations bureau at (856) 374-5712 or email CommunityRelations@gtpolice.com.
