Township reflects on tornado anniversary

Two years ago, today, the lives of many Mullica Hill families changed in the blink-of-an-eye. Sept. 1, 2021, will always be remembered as the day an EF3 level tornado touched down in our town with sustained wind over 150 mph. The funnel cloud was 400 yards wide, tore a path 12.6 miles long, and was on the ground for 20 minutes. It is only the fourth EF3 tornado ever recorded in NJ. Miraculously, there was no loss of human life.

However, there were 150 severely impacted properties, including 39 homes that were destroyed. The rebuilding process took longer than expected and there are still a few displaced families. Today is a day to remain steadfast in our support of those in need and to celebrate our Harrison Strong spirit.

We thank all who stepped up in the days, weeks, and months since the tornado. Take a moment today to think about those members of our Harrison family still working through their recovery. Our love and commitment to each other defines our sense of community and is the foundation to Harrison Strong.
