Water conservation is a township-wide effort in Moorestown. Its ordinance restricts the duration and times residents are permitted to water outside and the township has seen a recent substantial uptick in consumption.
Given the additional strain on the township’s system and the additional water it requires us to purchase from New Jersey American Water, Moorestown’s Department of Public Works will begin enforcing its water conservation ordinance, with fines for violators that can reach a maximum of $2,000.
The ordinance states the following:
- Water conservation rules are in effect 365 days per year. The former water conservation ordinance was only in effect once the township declared a water emergency.
- Every Moorestown property falls into one of four watering districts that are the same as existing trash collection districts.
- Each district allows for watering two days a week. Residents and businesses are prohibited to water their lawns except for their two designated days. Those days are:
- District 1 (Monday trash collection) – Sunday and Wednesday
- District 2 (Tuesday trash collection) – Monday and Thursday
- District 3 (Wednesday trash collection) – Monday and Thursday
- District 4 (Thursday trash collection) – Tuesday and Friday
- On the days your district is allowed to water, you are limited to watering between the hours of 5 to 8 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.
