“We’re trying to help the Red Cross,” said Dennis Miller of the post. “We try to help as many organizations as possible by letting them use the building for what they need.”

The goal of the drive, he added, is to gather anywhere between 20 to 30 pints of blood for donation.

“We try to get as many people as possible to help donate blood,” Miller noted. “I know they can use it and it’s in short demand. The last one we did had a good turnout and we donated 26 pints of blood.”

To donate, call the Red Cross at (800) REDCROSS (733-2767) or register online at its website by using the code Harrison Township. Donors can choose a donation time anywhere between 2 and 7 p.m., as well as indicate the type of donation, either blood or power red, which is a concentrated dose of red blood cells.

Space is limited; as of Aug. 16, there were 33 spots remaining. Donors will get a coupon for a free Dunkin’ medium or iced beverage and egg wrap, and a $10 gift card to a movie theater they can choose by email.
