Various genres of music will fill Wood Park on Thursday nights
One of township committee member Stephanie Kravil’s goals as liaison for the Parks and Recreation Department this year was to expand Cinnaminson’s summer concert series.
The goal has been met – and then some, according to Township Administrator Eric Shubiger.
“She is extremely excited about this year’s schedule and looks forward to seeing many residents take advantage of the free concerts at one of the township’s outstanding parks,” he said.
The concert series began on the first Thursday of July and will continue every Thursday through the end of August at Wood Park. Each show begins at 7 p.m., weather permitting.
The first of nine free concerts in the series included Beatles and Billy Joel tribute bands. Residents were treated to Parkway Soul, an Earth, Wind and Fire tribute band, on July 20. This Thursday’s concert will feature the Big Bleu Band, whose shows are advertised as a mix of dance, pop, rock and disco.
“This summer’s concert series includes nine performances, which represents the most comprehensive series to date,” Schubiger boasted. “… The (series) has been sponsored by Cinnaminson Township for approximately 20 years. However, Mayor (Ernest) McGill and the township committee have made a strong commitment to expanding (it) with a variety of music genres.”
The August shows will be an eclectic mix of music, with tribute bands for Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffett and Bruce Springsteen, as well as two groups who will cover both classic rock and today’s rock and roll.
“The township has been fortunate to garner a lot of interest from bands throughout the region,” Shubiger noted. “We attempt to provide a mix of returning bands and new bands each year. This year, there are three bands who have never performed at our concert series, three bands who have not performed for at least two years and three bands who performed last year.”
Over the more than two decades that the summer concert series has been held in Cinnaminson, attendance has grown.
“The Cinnaminson community looks forward to the summer concert series, and we often get inquiries about the dates of the shows and the bands who are performing,” Schubiger said. “Wood Park is a great venue to enjoy music in the park with friends and family.”
