Della Vecchia will make transition to Delran super in summer
Dr. Lisa Della Vecchia will serve a one-year term as interim head of the Delran school district as the board of education seeks a permanent superintendent.
An employment contract for Della Vecchia was recommended at a board work session on June 5 and is effective July 1 through June 30, 2024. Her annual salary will be $175,000.
Della Vecchia – currently assistant superintendent for student services in the district – will transition this summer after the departure of current Superintendent Dr. Brian Brotschul. After serving in that role since 2014, Botschul will become the next superintendent of the Somerset Hills district in Somerset County.
Della Vecchia began her teaching career in New York City’s Harlem, which ignited her passion to work with children. Back in New Jersey, she worked for the New Jersey Department of Education, focusing on whole-school reform, special education, and early childhood education, according to the press release from the Delran district.
Della Vecchia also held leadership positions in the Hamilton Township School District in Mercer County, first overseeing all federal grants across the district, then becoming principal at Yardville Heights Elementary School.
Della Vecchia was appointed director of student services for Delran in 2017, then became assistant superintendent five years later. Her work in Delran has focused on enhancing mental-health support and increased school counseling, developing protocols and staff training for crisis intervention and developing capital projects to educate the district’s most vulnerable learners.
Della Vecchia’s leadership has enhanced the continuity of programming to meet ongoing student needs, according to the district release. She has a bachelor’s  from Pace University, a master’s degree from New York University, and a doctorate from Wilmington University and is an active member of several professional organizations.
Board President Glenn Kitley said on behalf of the board that Della Vecchia “provides experience in the local Delran context regarding all of our programs and operations and will serve the district well as the Delran Township Board of Education works diligently to conduct a search for a permanent superintendent.
“We look forward to working with her to provide the best possible education to the students we serve.”
“I am honored to serve the Delran Township Board of Education, the district, and the entire community in the role of leading our district,” Della Vecchia noted. “My main focus is to always keep students first and to support the Delran community of staff and stakeholders. Our focus always remains on the children that we serve, and the district would not be successful without the support of our active and engaged parents, staff members, and the community at large.
“We must continue to look to the future with optimism and a renewed commitment to providing the same level of opportunity for the next generation of young people in this wonderful community.”
