Moorestown Rowing Club (MRC) has received bids for three 8-boats to compete in U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals in Sarasota, Florida from June 7-11. Moorestown Rowing Club took the national rowing community by surprise last year as the smallest and only high school club to place in the nation’s top 12 crews. This year, the club will send 27 athletes to Sarasota, Florida to compete for top seeds. Moorestown will compete in U16 Men’s Youth 1V 8’s, in U16 Women’s Youth 1V 8’s and in U19 Women’s Youth 1V 8’s.
MRC made the leap from high school to club rowing in 2022, which allows the club to enter more athletes in the Under-16 category. In a landmark turn of events, of the 27 athletes attending this year’s competition 13 are 7th and 8th graders. Opening the club to younger athletes and those outside of Moorestown has attracted the attention of rowers throughout the Delaware Valley.
“This year has been a year of great advancement for the club,” said Harry Faunce, commodore of MRC. “We have more athletes and outstanding coaches who all have made this possible. This is the remarkable element of crew – all athletes play a part in MRCs participation at Nationals. We couldn’t be prouder of all of our athletes and are looking forward to watching these three boats represent MRC.”
