Congressman Andy Kim and state Sen. Troy Singleton join Delran Intermediate students for panel discussion on recycling plastics
The Delran Intermediate School Green team hosted Congressman Andy Kim and state Sen. Troy Singleton on Monday, April 17.
The dignitaries joined school officials and students as they held a panel discussion about recycling plastics in New Jersey.
“Our Green Team consists of 225 students who have spent the year researching and recycling plastics in many ways,” said Sharon Kernan Cumiskey, sustainability co-leader for the Green Team, adding the students also work closely with the Delran Green Team in their endeavors.
During the visit, the students showed Kim and Singleton all the activities they have been working on.
Students gave a tour of the school’s SOLACE Outdoor Classroom, which was built by Green Team students during the pandemic.
And a ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held for the school’s three new Water Bottle Stations purchased through a $10,000 grant from Sustainable Jersey for Schools and the New Jersey Education Association. Each student and staff member also received a stainless-steel reusable water bottle with the funds.
