A center point on Main Street

Community House hosts annual wine tasting fundraiser

Special to The Sun: “You’ll see people come really, really dressed up in their spring coming-out wear,” fundraiser chair Haynes Hendrickson said of the wine-tasting event.

The Community House of Moorestown will host its 18th annual wine tasting fundraiser on Saturday, April 22, at 6 p.m.

“I really look forward to seeing people that I know, and everybody is happy to be there and happy for nice weather,” said Caryn Lynch, executive director of the Community House. “After a long winter, I reconnect with neighbors and friends that I don’t get to see as much.”

Wegmans will provide the alcohol and food, and there will also be a live band for entertainment.

“I just think it’s continued to be a great success because in the great community that we live in, people want a good reason to see everybody out socially and not always on the sports fields or at the library,” said Haynes Hendrickson, fundraiser chair. “So it tends to be a really, really popular event.”

Hendrickson’s late father, a former Community House board member, developed the idea for the wine tasting 18 years ago, and it quickly became a success.

“There’s a lot of heartstrings of people that want to make sure the Community House, that receives no township funding, remains a center point and a gathering place on Main Street in Moorestown,” Hendrickson noted.

Hendrickson cited volunteers from the Moorestown Garden Club who help with the fundraiser, which he wants to grow every year.

Special to The Sun: The idea for the annual fundraiser came 18 years ago, and it quickly became what planners called a success.

“We want to keep coming up with ideas to make people feel engaged and connected to the Community House,” he explained.

Aside from seeing people come out for a good cause, Hendrickson believes another positive of the fundraiser is how the Community House is dressed for the party.

“When you come up to the event, the house is decorated (and) it just feels like a nice place,” he said. “You’ll see people come really, really dressed up in their spring coming-out wear, and other people come very, very casual, but I think it feeds into their expectation of the vibe of the event and how nice the Community House is decorated.”

Hendrickson and Lynch are thankful for the support of fundraiser attendees.

“It’s my job that night to say, ‘Thank you for supporting the Community House,’ not, ‘Thanks for coming to a party,’ but we have to, as a board, make sure we are just reminding people that we’re thankful for their donations, we’re thankful for their investment in helping our cause,” Hendrickson observed.

“I really appreciate everyone coming, because it is the Community House’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and it’s just an important event,” Lynch said. “And I know that it’s fun and it brings the community together, but it also really goes a long way to support the Community House and the ongoing maintenance and ongoing operations.”
