The Guitar Guild and Academy of Musical Arts has been a staple in Palmyra since 1977, a family-owned music school that teaches musicians in all instruments.
Originally started by Bob Cappetta, the school changed hands about five years ago. Its current owner and president is Cappetta’s daughter, Renee. She has kept Guitar Guild business strong, and over time has accumulated a number of instruments from those who donate to the school.
“People keep bringing me instruments,” Cappetta said. “My boyfriend jokes and says that I’m like a halfway house for orphaned instruments and that I foster them and find them their forever homes.”
But Cappetta has now accumulated so many instruments, she needs to clear some out.
She came up with the idea of a massive music sale on Nov. 5, that will lessen inventory, fund internal improvements at the Guild and Academy and help support a local church Cappetta attends that needs renovations.
“We need a new PA system and also, the church I go to, Central Baptist in Palmyra/Riverton, the roof started leaking,” Cappetta explained. “The roof needs to be restored, so we’ve started raising funds for it.”
Roughly 10 percent of the money from the sale will support that restoration, a nearly $60,000 project for which about $14,000 has already been raised from the community. Central Baptist, originally founded in 1885, has been in its current building since 1929, and while the roof was redone in the 1990s, it has seen significant wear and tear.
“Renee is not just part of our church, but we have a symbiosis with the Guitar Guild because they’ve done recitals here, they’ve done concerts here, so this has become a venue for the guild,” Central Baptist Pastor Wesley Allen noted.
Anyone interested in attending the sale can find more information on the Guild’s Facebook page. Sale hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
