New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures on Route 70 eastbound at the I-295 interchange beginning tonight in Cherry Hill, Camden County as the Route 70 corridor improvement project advances.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, July 22, until 6 a.m., tomorrow, Saturday, July 23, NJDOT’s contractor, Richard E. Pierson Construction, Co., is scheduled to close lanes overnight to implement new traffic pattern on Route 70 eastbound at the I-295 interchange. All lanes on Route 70 eastbound will be shifted to the right to allow work in the median. The new traffic pattern is necessary for the installation of drainage structures and is expected to continue for approximately two months. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained, during the implementation of the traffic shift. In addition, the ramp from I-295 northbound to Route 70 eastbound will be closed and detoured. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour signs or plan an alternate route.

The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the N. Maple Ave loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.

Variable Message Signs will be used to provide advance notification to motorists.  The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
