Cherry Hill West graduate serves as literary assistant for off-broadway performance
From June 15 through June 26, "Mi Abuela, Queen of Nightmares," will make its world premiere at the Gene Frankel Theatre, an Off-Off Broadway venue in New York City.
Cherry Hill West High School graduate Sydnie Stern (’21) is serving as the literary assistant on “Mi Abuela, Queen of Nightmares,” which is making its world premiere at the Gene Frankel Theatre, an Off-Off Broadway venue in New York City. Stern is working under playwright and director Christine Stoddard. The play opened June 15 and will run through June 26, for a total of 10 performances. During her work on the project, Stern has done everything from proofread the script to take notes during rehearsals to write outreach emails and more. Currently, Stern is an English major at St. John’s University in Queens, New York and will be entering her sophomore year this fall.
“Mi Abuela, Queen of Nightmares” centers on Maya (Vanessa Vivas), a young Salvadoran-American, who navigates trauma and family mythology through magic and folklore as she comes of age in Phoenix, Arizona. C0-stars include Marian Del Valle and Fiamma Piacentini. “Mi Abuela, Queen of Nightmares” will be produced by Quail Bell Press & Productions. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
