The youth basketball league season just finished but there’s more basketball on the horizon beginning in early April. Late in April the Rec Department will be offering soccer instruction and training scrimmages for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten-aged children. Fundamentals, good sportsmanship, teamwork and equal participation are stressed, as well as having fun.
Championship Coach Shawn Antsey will be teaching basketball clinics for third and fourth graders on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and fifth through seventh graders from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. (these are also co-ed programs). Coach Anstey currently teaches at the Upper Elementary School. He has the distinct honor of leading the Moorestown High School varsity boys basketball team to the 2019 Championships for the first time in 60 years.
Fundamental Hoops will be leading basketball clinics for first and second graders (boys and girls) on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for six weeks beginning April 6. On Thursdays, boys and girls in first grade will play from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by boys and girls in second grade from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (also a six-week program starting April 7). Coach Daryl will run drills for shooting, rebounding, passing and dribbling. Daryl has over 20 years of experience as an athlete, trainer and high school basketball coach.
Three Lions Soccer Academy will provide instruction for pre-K and kindergarteners starting April 30 for six weeks on Saturday mornings. This program takes place at Memorial Field Park from 9 a.m. to noon. Each session will be approximately 90 minutes. Coaches from Three Lions’ Soccer will train kids for 35 minutes and impart their techniques to the volunteer parents for future continuity. Mini scrimmages will be played with small teams to optimize playing time.
