New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced lane closures on Route 70 eastbound and westbound Friday and Saturday nights in Cherry Hill and Evesham in Camden County as a Route 70 corridor improvement project advances.
Between 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, March 4 until 7 a.m. Saturday, March 5, NJDOT’s contractor, Richard E. Pierson Construction, Co., is scheduled to close lanes on Route 70 eastbound to restripe the roadway and place construction drums between Rockhill Road, Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue, Evesham. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight. By Saturday morning, eastbound traffic will be shifted slightly to the right.
Between 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5 until 7 a.m. Sunday, March 6, there will be lane closures on Route 70 westbound to restripe the roadway and place construction drums between Cooper Avenue, Evesham and Rockhill Road, Cherry Hill. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight. By Sunday morning, westbound traffic will be shifted to the right. The eastbound and westbound traffic shifts will create a center median work zone for the installation of drainage pipe and curb work. This traffic pattern is expected to be in place through the summer.
The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the N. Maple Ave loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.
Variable Message Signs will be used to provide advance notification to motorists. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
