New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced lane closures on Route 70 eastbound and westbound on Friday and Saturday nights in order to shift traffic in Cherry Hill, Camden County as part of a Route 70 corridor improvement project.
Between 8 p.m. Friday, February 11 until 7 a.m. Saturday, February 12, NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc., is scheduled to close lanes on Route 70 eastbound to restripe the roadway and place construction barrier between Grove Street and Route 41/Kings Highway. Between 8 p.m. Saturday, February 12 until 7 a.m. Sunday, February 13, there will be lane closures on Route 70 westbound to restripe the roadway and place construction barrier between Route 41/Kings Highway and Grove Street. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight.
By Sunday morning, February 13, traffic in both directions will be shifted to the right to create a center median work zone for the installation of utility conduit. This traffic pattern will be in place for several months.
The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 28 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the N. Maple Ave loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.
Variable Message Signs will be used to provide advance notification to motorists. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
