Seneca High School is offering a new nonresident tuition-based enrollment for three of the school’s programs this upcoming school year (2022-2023). The programs are ASE Automotive Certification Program, the Air Force JROTC and Project Lead the Way.
The ASE Automotive Certification Program, a four-year series of courses, includes curriculum and hands-on work experience that ends with an ASE Entry Level Certification to start a career in the automotive industry. Half-day internships are provided at local automotive shops during junior and senior years.
The Air Force JROTC will give cadets an opportunity to build skills in leadership, citizenship, self-discipline and community service. Students will also receive instruction in air and space fundamentals.
Project Lead the Way offers students a chance to create, design, build, discover, collaborate and solve problems while applying what they learn in math and science. Students who complete the four-year high school program can earn up to nine college credits and benefit from a higher acceptance rate into college engineering programs.
Tuition-based enrollment was introduced to the public last spring during the Public Hearing on the 2021-2022 LRHSD School Budget to create revenue in the wake of being forced to make reductions given the current school funding formula. The first program previously launched, Project Search, enables other school districts to enroll special education students, who are between the ages 18 and 21, in a unique career placement and planning program. Seneca was selected for the second tuition program due to decreasing enrollment at Seneca and the need to maximize these specific course enrollments.
“LRHSD is determined to find creative solutions to combat the scheduled decreases in state funding under S2,” said School Business Administrator Connie Stewart. “We hope this solution will bring in new revenue to prevent future cuts to programming, a benefit to current students. Area students and their families can now take advantage of what we know is an exceptional educational experience at LRHSD.”
The tuition costs $8,000 and students who enroll must provide their own transportation. Acceptance into the programs is determined on a case-by-case basis with rolling admission, and scheduling for the fall is available now. There is limited space in each program, so applying earlier is better.
