Shawnee High School proudly congratulates Matthew Catinella on being named the Educational Services Professional of the Year. Catinella, in his fifth year at Shawnee, serves as the Substance Abuse Coordinator in the Counseling Center and developed the Shawnee Wellness Center this past year.

He is the current head coach of the Boys Cross Country and Boys Winter Track teams, as well as the advisor for the Students Against Destructive Decisions Club (SADD). Mr. Catinella was previously the head coach of the Boys Spring Track team for four years.

Principal of Shawnee High School, Matthew Campbell, spoke about Catinella and congratulated him on his award.

Matt Catinella took on the responsibility of working in the Wellness Center the majority of the day. He has created an inviting, calming, therapeutic space for students within the school that feel overwhelmed, angry, anxious, or unheard. Matt needed to navigate students’ social and emotional needs, teacher and staff expectations, and appropriate therapeutic boundaries while developing a Wellness Room from scratch. An integral part of the school community, Mr. Catinella brings out the best in student-athletes in our cross country and track programs. As a counselor and coach, Matt Catinella takes on every role with passion and enthusiasm to give our students a positive school experience,”
