Child Advocacy Center partners with local pub for fundraiser

Egg Harbor Road eatery will donate 15 percent of a guest’s check

The Village Pub in Washington Township will partner with the Child Advocacy Center of Gloucester County for a week-long fundraiser to support the new nonprofit in its work with child abuse victims.

The Village Pub in Washington Township will partner with the Child Advocacy Center of Gloucester County (CACGC) for a five-day fundraiser to support the new nonprofit in its advocacy of child abuse victims.

From Dec. 12 through 16, the pub will donate 15 percent of a guest check total to the center when customers present a voucher before ordering that can be found on the nonprofit’s Facebook page. Included are all menu items and beverages at the restaurant, located at 139 Egg Harbor Road.

The partnership marks the Child Advocacy Center’s first fundraising event, an effort to raise money that will support making a difference in the lives of children who have been abused.

“Having our CAC partner with local businesses for fundraising is extremely important to achieve our mission of providing resources to the CACGC so they can offer a unified approach to the allegation of child abuse or maltreatment and provide the victim not only a safe environment to share their story, but to also offer services and education that will support and empower them,” said Lt. Stacie Lick of the Special Victims Unit and High Tech Crimes Unit in the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The victims unit is housed at the advocacy center. Lick and others from the prosecutor’s office are involved with the Friends of the Child Advocacy Center, a nonprofit associated with the CACGC that is responsible for fundraising.

“In order to be fully successful, the Friends of CACGC relies heavily on the support of its surrounding community,” said Chelsea Porter, board member of the group. “One of our main goals of our nonprofit is to create long-lasting partnerships with local businesses within our community.”

The center also plans to use donated funds for a facility larger than the prosecutor’s Woodbury office, where it is housed now.

“We plan to have a fundraiser where donors can contribute to the renovation of a new building that will allow us to create a child friendly environment where children can come and share their story,” Lick explained. “Those who donate will have their name placed on a donation tree in the waiting room at the CACGC.”

The next fundraising event CACGC has in store is scheduled for the week of Valentine’s Day. At Chick-Fil-A in Mantua, there will be a “dine and donate” event where $1 donations will buy a special item.

“We are a brand new nonprofit and are hopeful these upcoming fundraising events will be successful in assisting us with making a difference to the children we serve,” Porter noted.
