Mayor’s Column: Fire Prevention Night

Mayor Michael MIgnogna discusses the upcoming Fire Prevention Awareness Night held on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m at Eastern Regional High School.

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 3 to 9. Every year, Fire Prevention Week is observed during the week of Oct. 9 in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire that occurred in 1871. This fire killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres of land.

Voorhees Township’s Annual Fire Prevention Awareness Night will be on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Eastern Regional High School.

All are invited to come out and meet our local firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians and enjoy the fun-filled evening that has become a Voorhees tradition.

Activities will include live demonstrations from our firefighters, games, bounce houses, face painters, balloon artists, a photo booth, hot dogs and cotton candy. Children can try the fire safety obstacle course and the safety trailer (smokehouse). Fire apparatus will be present for kids of all ages to explore. There will also be giveaways from local businesses and our Fire Department.

Come out and meet all of our First Responders, the event is free and sponsored by the Voorhees Citizens Event Foundation, Hardenbergh Insurance Group, Bowman & Company, CME Associates, Republic Bank, Columbia Bank, South Jersey Radiology and Environmental Resolutions, Inc.
