The Lenape Regional High School District has released a Golden Age Pass to seniors who are 62 or older and residents of the district’s eight sending communities so they can access events at Lenape, Shawnee, Cherokee and Seneca high schools.
The passes are for seniors who live in Mt. Laurel, Shamong, Southampton, Tabernacle and Woodland, and allow for free admission to school athletics, plays and musicals. They may not be used for free admission to Lenape Regional Foundation performances, Cherokee NJSIAA playoff or tournament games or school dinner theaters.
The Golden Age Pass is meant to keep the community connected, according to School Superintendent Carol L. Birnbohm, by allowing seniors to get involved in events even if they don’t know any district students.
“Our district understands seniors contribute to the tax base but might not have children in our schools,” she said. “It’s a way of providing something free for them to enjoy, and it provides our students an opportunity to perform to larger crowds, more than just their family and friends. It keeps our schools connected with the community.
“The Golden Age Pass program is in line with other programs that connect our kids to our senior population,” Birnbohm added, “such as (the) Cherokee High School student council Valentine’s Day Ball, sending choirs to assisted living facilities, etc.”
To confirm plans that will require the pass, the holder must contact a school prior to an event to confirm available seating.
