Township resident addresses concerns regarding politicians

To the Editor,

Social conservatives, especially politicians, have a mixed attitude toward life.

In Texas, if you are a pregnant female, Governor Abbott and the Republican-dominated legislature decided that you don’t get a vote about abortion, even if you were raped or were a victim of incest. Enforcers are vigilante residents who may sue prospective female patients or abortion clinics to recover legal fees, as well as $10,000, if they win the lawsuit. The U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Attorney General Garland and the Department of Justice are now involved. The final legal outcome is an open question.

With COVID-19, two heavy hitters – Texas Governor Abbott and Florida Governor DeSantis – have opposed facemasks, vaccinations and mandates. The current Texas COVID-19 death count is more than 58,600, while the current Florida death count is more than 46,300. These numbers are stunning, not only because of their size but because they would be dramatically lower if residents had been encouraged to use face masks and have virus shots.

Abortion? Every life is precious. Face masks and COVID-19 vaccinations? Politics rules, life doesn’t count.
